Stability AI raised $76 million in a Series B joined by Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, Electronic Arts, and AMD Ventures. For the music sector, the round is notable because all three major music companies are now equity investors in the same generative AI developer, alongside investors from gaming and technology.
ElevenMusic introduced Composer, a song editor that turns verses, hooks, bridges, and other sections into separately editable blocks. Creators can begin with lyrics, an existing track, a prompt, or a blank page, then change lyrics, tempo, key, or section length and regenerate one part while leaving the rest of the track unchanged.
Apple Music told industry partners that it will make its AI Transparency Tags visible to listeners later this year as Made With AI labels. Labels and distributors will have to tag content when AI created a material portion, including tracks primarily derived from a generative AI service; Apple Music is relying on provider-submitted metadata rather than platform detection, so coverage will depend on accurate disclosure.
Music IP Holdings opened a generative-AI patent portfolio for licensing, with Udio and GRAI as its first technology licensees. The framework covers stages from prompting and moderation through watermarking, authorization, distribution and payment, and the companies say the licenses will support covers, remixes and other interactive music services while adding controls against unauthorized redistribution.
Alibaba has opened HappyShrimp 1.0 in beta, turning a written prompt into a finished song with melody, arrangement, lyrics and vocals. The company also announced a collaboration with Taihe Music Group for artist co-creation and content development, placing the new model alongside established AI music generators while leaving the partnership's recording-licensing scope unspecified.
Round Hill Music filed separate copyright lawsuits against Suno and Anthropic in California federal court. Each complaint lists 500 compositions as a representative set, says the case may expand to 10,000 or more works, and requests up to $150,000 for each work found willfully infringed. Both complaints demand jury trials; the Suno case also names Bright Data companies.
