Jamendo filed a voluntary dismissal of its U.S. copyright lawsuit against Suno on August 13. The dismissal is without prejudice, so Jamendo may bring the same claims again; the filing gave no reason for the withdrawal and did not mention a settlement. For now, this specific case ends without a court ruling on Jamendo's allegations.
Suno launched Studio 2.0, adding MIDI support, a beta AI chat bar, advanced stem separation, and new audio effects and automation. The browser-based workstation gives Premier subscribers more control over notes, arrangement, sound design, and multitrack exports, moving Suno beyond prompt-only song generation. Suno also says Studio exports will remain outside the download limits being introduced for its other plans.
Spotify and Kobalt signed a licensing agreement for Spotify's upcoming AI-powered covers and remixes tool, its first publishing deal for the product outside Universal Music Group. The planned paid Premium add-on is intended to use works from participating songwriters and let songwriters and artists share in the value created. Spotify has not confirmed the tool's launch date or price, so the agreement expands rights coverage ahead of release.
Music Ally reports that Beatport has updated its policy to reject music that is wholly or substantially generated by AI. The restriction gives labels and distributors a clear submission rule for the electronic-music store and limits a route to commercial release for largely synthetic tracks. The available policy wording does not define a numerical threshold for what Beatport considers substantial AI generation.
Suno and BMG announced a global licensing alliance covering BMG's recorded music and publishing repertoire. Participation is opt-in for BMG artists and songwriters; the companies say participating creators will be compensated, their rights protected, and prior use of BMG works settled. BMG will also help develop Suno's upcoming licensed models, making this Suno's first major rightsholder agreement since its Warner Music Group deal.
Suno will introduce download limits on September 3: Pro users get 20 downloads a month, Premier users 60, and free users seven lifetime downloads for personal use only. Additional downloads will be sold, while projects downloaded through Suno Studio remain unlimited for Premier users. The policy materially changes how subscribers export generated songs, although creation credits and in-platform playback remain separate from download allowances.
