A Munich court ruled that Suno infringed copyright in GEMA’s case over the AI music generator, according to Music Business Worldwide, citing Reuters. The dispute concerns GEMA’s allegation that Suno used, stored and reproduced copyrighted music for training without a licence or payment to rightsholders. Because the decision is at first instance and can still be appealed, the legal outcome is not yet final.
IFPI has begun applying AI eligibility principles to charts it directly manages, including its MENA, Southeast Asia, South Africa and several Latin American rankings. The rules require lawful and authorized AI services, substantially human-made recordings, no chart manipulation, rights compliance and consumer disclosure. IFPI is also working with national groups on more than 20 additional chart programs, making this an operational rollout rather than a proposal alone.
Independent publishing groups IMPEL and IMPF are working with Warner Music Group-owned Sureel AI on a closed sandbox to test whether its attribution technology can support fair compensation for songwriters and publishers. Participating publishers will use selected repertoire only inside the defined trial, with no works provided for AI training. The project is an evaluation of attribution evidence, not a licensing agreement or commercial deployment.
Music manager Lucas Keller, producer Oak Felder and Chateaubriand Ventures have sued SoundPatrol and related defendants, alleging they helped develop its copyright-detection software but were not compensated. The complaint seeks more than $5 million, punitive damages, patent-assignment rescission and enforcement of stock options. SoundPatrol, whose technology has been used in a Universal and Sony collaboration to detect copyrighted music in AI tracks, had not responded to the report's request for comment.
Google says Lyria 3.5 is rolling out in Flow Music with improved melodic complexity, lyric quality and prompt adherence, more expressive vocals and better pronunciation. The model also adds easier control over tempo and output duration. For creators, the release focuses on both generation quality and practical steering, but the claims currently come from Google's launch announcement rather than independent testing.
A coalition including the three major labels, Believe, BMG, Concord and HYBE proposed eligibility principles for AI-assisted recordings on official charts. The framework says qualifying tracks should use lawful, authorized AI services, remain substantially human-made, avoid manipulation, comply with rights and service terms, and disclose AI use. No chart body has adopted the proposal yet, so it is a policy push rather than an active global rule.
