Music Ally reported that distributor Symphonic has partnered with ArtyShield to give its clients access to AI-protection tools, including some at no cost. The offer includes MusicShield, a product designed to help protect music before release from unauthorized AI use. The partnership makes preventive AI-use protection available through Symphonic's client services instead of requiring artists and rightsholders to find a separate provider.
Treblo released an open-source classifier designed to identify music generated by its own models. The company says the tool currently does not detect tracks from other AI systems and reports a false-positive rate below one in 10,000 in its evaluations. The Verge used the classifier in reporting on a disputed charting track, showing how the tool may inform attribution claims while remaining limited to Treblo outputs.
A federal judge in Illinois declined to dismiss independent artists’ copyright class action against Udio, but did so without prejudice and transferred the case to the Southern District of New York. Udio may renew its dismissal request there, so the order does not decide whether the artists’ copyright and related claims will proceed. The move places the dispute in the district handling other Udio litigation.
South Korea’s KOMCA began accepting AI-assisted songs for registration and royalties when a human made a substantial contribution to the writing, composition, or arrangement. Applicants must disclose the AI-assisted parts, tools used, and their own creative role; prompt-only AI works remain ineligible. False filings can trigger royalty holds, repayment demands, or termination of the creator’s trust contract.
Spotify said Merlin has joined Universal Music Group in supporting its planned AI-powered covers and remixes product. The paid tool is intended to use music from participating artists, with opt-in participation, credit, and compensation built into the model, broadening the independent-label repertoire that could be available when the product launches.
New EU AI Act transparency obligations began applying on August 2. Providers of generative AI systems must use machine-readable markings so synthetic audio, image, video, and text can be detected, while deployers must disclose qualifying AI-generated or manipulated audio, images, and video deepfakes. For AI music services offered in the EU, this makes content marking and disclosure part of compliance rather than an optional product choice.
